Limitations of Online Contact
There are challenges in confidentiality with distance learning video conferencing.
- Please refer to the above Memo.
- Email is not private and confidential.
- A video conference has certain protections, however:
- Remember that others in your home may overhear or see your video conference.
- Suggestions:
- Wear headphones with a microphone
- Use white noise (fan or white noise machine) to prevent others from overhearing private conversations
- Identify a separate or private room for virtual meetings
- If you need immediate mental health assistance please contact the crisis line at Northwestern Mental Health 800-282-5005 or the Crisis Text Line: text MN to 741 741
- Suggestions:
- There could be a disruption of transmission due to technology failures and limited ability to respond to emergencies.
- Remember that others in your home may overhear or see your video conference.
- When you have your camera enabled others can SEE you. Be aware of what you are wearing, what others will see and what is happening behind you.
- If you have your microphone on, everyone can HEAR you and anything going on around you.
